The Sun Road Opening Contest

Transportation can be a challenge in Glacier. If you have ideas, offer ride shares, or used a commercial service that you were happy with, let everyone know. Also, ask questions about road information, or share road information you may have.

The Sun Road Opening Contest

Post by llholmes1948 »

Dear Chatters,

I am not sure what we should do with our Sun Road Opening contest this year. Last year I posted a message about it but after two or three weeks no one responded with a prediction so I deleted the message.

This year it appears that the plowing is going well but due to construction the road will not open until June 22 so probably whoever guesses June 22 at 8 am will win!

So I don't know if we want to have a contest this year or not. If we don't have a contest this year I suppose that next year we can make the prize two virtual kegs of beer and not just one.

Thanks,
Lyman

Two virtual kegs of beer sounds good.

Maybe we can predict when the Big drift (if it hasn't been cleared already) will be cleared or when the East side is opened up to Logan Pass.

Paul,

I am off tomorrow for DC and New Orleans for a couple of weeks and will have limited internet connection so I probably will not be in a position to coordinate any contest.
So maybe someone else can set one up if there enough interest.

Thanks,
Lyman

Hi Lyman,

No problem. If there was interest, I would be up for adding my prediction. However, there doesn't seem to be the same amount of activity on this page as years past. Anyway, maybe next season.

Have fun and safe travels,
Paul

Not much "activity" anywhere else either, not just on this page.
Interesting fact:
100 new members have joined since May 12th 2018.
They have contributed a combined total 112 posts in that year.

Just sayin' 8)

It's slow on hikearizona.com too; has been for about 6 months now. I've talked about it with fellow HAZers and no one is sure why activity has slowed. We have lots of new members too. Not sure what's up with that. Maybe I should put up a survey on HAZ.

Altho I would think glacier.nationalparkschat.com will pick up for the summer.

My money is on the GoingTo The Sun road NOT opening until after this weekend.
If it snows even an inch or two they won't open it.

I was wondering why the page was not current on the park website. I have friends due there on the 23rd so hoping it
is open for them.

The page shouldn't go down until Friday. As for the weather...
They have backed off a bit on the snow amounts. So even if it does snow today and Friday at the higher elevations, they should have the road cleared by Sunday.
So assuming they were actually going to open the road Friday, it might open on Sunday.
However, the forecast right now is for yukky weather Sunday and Monday--cool and showery.

Nice to hear from you Marie :)
Hope Dino and the grandkids are doing well.
