Wow!
We had crazy wind on Dawson Pass once.
Felt like it would lift you up and off the mountain.
I had to chase my 35lb pack, when we tried to take a break.

Just curious, is it typically windy up in the passes?
In New England, most any trip above treeline gets you 20 mph winds, and Mt Washington (6200 ft) gets you 40-100 most days.
Should I expect the same at Glacier in August, specifically in the North Fork?

Thanks

There's a lot of above tree line hiking in Glacier and it can get pretty windy. However, sometimes you get calm days.
Some passes seem to be always windy. Dawson pass is usually very windy. Most times I'm up there it's blowing harder than 30mph.

Paul's right. There are days when there won't be any wind at all, even on high mountain peaks.
And then there are the days when you can barely stand up, let alone walk. Like IRG had at Dawson pass.
Last fall hiking to the summit of Piegan, on an otherwise "bluebird day", I had to turn back after reaching the pass between Pollack and Piegan.
The wind was probably up in the 40-50mph range and gusty. My eyes were teared up and the gusts would nearly blow me off my feet.
I met Scott-Atl for the first time, and his two friends on my way back to Piegan Pass---where there was almost no wind
Scott and his friends got to the pass and turned back as well. It's just no fun fighting wind like that.

So yeah, the wind can blow at times, but it's all part of the "experience" as the wag says 8)

This was going up to Siyeh Pass. Gets windy frequently here on the switchbacks going up.
30 seconds

However, minutes later after rounding the corner at the top looking down the Boulder Creek drainage...the wind was nearly zero...
