detailed maps

Hi everyone -

could anyone point me in the direction of some sort of detailed map showing the distance between points on hiking trails? i don't care if i have to purchase it (i'd prefer not to if i have an option). i have some trails picked out, but i have no idea how long they are and the last thing i want to do is a 20 mile hike and be stuck half way through.

I have found google earth to be helpful. Turn the hiking trails on. It shows distances between trail junctions and you can get the elevations for wherever your pointer is

I use Topo Quest a lot; good detailed online topo maps. Lots of detail, but does NOT have distances between points on the trails.

I was checking out those NPS maps, but it didn't help much if i wanted to do a "custom" trip - but thanks! I think those hike374 maps will help
