Re: Hole n the wall

It's always hard to predict trail conditions for alpine areas. There is a pretty good chance you will ba able to reach Brown Pass. The trail above Brown Pass toward Hole in the Wall faces south and is exposed to winter winds and might also be passable most of the way. After that trail rounds the ben...

Re: Inside North Fork Road - 2023

It is still possible to bike the Inside North Fork Road so long as you are prepared for the rough conditions. The road is gravel but there are some erosion areas and sections might be pretty rough. You will also have to wade Anaconda Creek where the road has been washed out.

Re: Inside North Fork Road - 2023

A Glacier Mountaineering Society member has coordinated bike rides between Apgar and Polebridge numerous times mostly on the Fourth of July. The rides were timed to reach Polebridge in time for the parade. On some of those trips members had to walk a short section around Anaconda Creek. I don't reca...

Re: April 8, 2024 Total Solar Eclipse

My group of four has been staying in Austin Texas. Since Austin is on the edge and expected about a minute of totality at our hotel, we drove to Marble Falls and joined the Eclipse Party at the Save the World Brewery. Skies in Austin this morning looked grim and they did have some heavy rain in the ...

Re: April 8, 2024 Total Solar Eclipse

Thanks for the good weather wishes. Keep them coming. Forecast for today was cloudy but the sun broke through quite a bit. We spent the afternoon at the Ladybird Johnson Wildflower Gardens. The wildflowers didn't disappoint.

Re: April 8, 2024 Total Solar Eclipse

Arrived in Austin in time to watch the bats fly out of the Congress Street Bridge downtown. Over 100,000 bats live in crevices under the bridge and emerge around sunset to feed. We did see zillions of bats and probably an equal number of people. Hoping for clearing weather for the eclipse.

Re: Rum Soaked Dried Pineapple Slices trail snack

It's experimentation day!!! Food Report style.... So I read somewhere on the internet that something like 120-140F degrees is good for dehydrating pineapple in your over... And it's best to leave your oven door cracked open with a wooden spoon for more air flow.... Sounds like a bit of a fire hazar...

Re: Permits NOT available at Two Medicine in 2024

It is a change. Permits have always been available at Two Medicine. It definitely creates a hardship for some.

Re: rec.gov - New Beta Campground Notification Feature

This notification feature can be quite useful but as you mention the sites, once open, may be taken quickly. I was able to snag a campsite in Arches NP using the notification last fall. Unfortunately, for high demand locations like Glacier (and Arches) there are a whole bunch of people signed up for...

Re: 2024 Lottery Results

So it looks like they’ve locked out viewing availability unless you had a successful lottery application. Not sure if that also includes if you check before your scheduled time. Working on a solution. I'll be glad to check your route for you. I have an April 21 date in the lottery. I have logged on...

3000 permits/ 40 days/ 5 slots a day =15
I stand corrected. Thanks. I edited my original post.

Re: 2024 Lottery Results

I think they just assign a group of people a day and it starts at 7am MDT. From what I’m reading, the awarded times seem to be every 2 hours throughout the day, every day of the week. Starting at 7:00 am and until at least 3:00 pm. My start time is 3:00 pm. If two hour blocks are allocated starting...

Re: 2024 Lottery Results

I don't think there will much scalping going on. I think most backpackers aren't really interested in that sort of thing. I think some the people accepted will not get permits because some one in their group already got a permit with better options, some will get them and use them for another trip,...

Re: 2024 Lottery Results

I got April 1st. Not sure where that puts me but I guess it's better than not getting anything at all. Does anyone know how many permits they issue per hour and per day? Sorry to the folks who got skunked. The earliest award date is March 21 and the latest is April 30. I would definitely trade my A...

Re: 2024 Lottery Results

Successful! I'll start my planning.
Awarded Date: April 21 is most likely not ideal.
