Re: Getting to the Belly River Trailhead

Hey Supermatt. Backpackers Ferry info can be found here. https://www.backpackersferry.com/ They would definitely pick you up in East Glacier and take you to the Belly River trailhead but I’d call to confirm as if there’s 8 of you they might not have the room, I’m not sure. We have used them numerous...

Re: Rum Soaked Dried Pineapple Slices trail snack

Oh wow those are good. Could I have gone with just a 1/4 cup of brown sugar instead of a 1/2 cup? Probably. But they sure are tasty. Heh. Ended up having them in the oven at 170F for 9 hours flipping them every hour or so, then turned off the oven but left them in the oven overnight slowly cooling d...

Re: Rum Soaked Dried Pineapple Slices trail snack

Just tried a tiny piece after almost 7 hours.…. That’s pretty darn tasty! Thinking I’ll still keep it going for another hour or 2 though.

Re: Rum Soaked Dried Pineapple Slices trail snack

My wife makes beef jerky in our electric over set at 175 F with the door opened a crack and held there with a wooden spoon. Ralph That sounds like a tasty trail snack. 👍. Our oven must have a safety switch of some sort on it perhaps. Unless it’s a setting I can turn off. I can’t seem to keep heat o...

Re: Rum Soaked Dried Pineapple Slices trail snack

It's experimentation day!!! Food Report style.... So I read somewhere on the internet that something like 120-140F degrees is good for dehydrating pineapple in your over... And it's best to leave your oven door cracked open with a wooden spoon for more air flow.... Sounds like a bit of a fire hazard...

Re: Rum Soaked Dried Pineapple Slices snack

Ha! Right on! I have to admit I’ve never actually had Fireball. Lol! Some day I’ll have to fix that. Heh. I’ll try and give a “Food Report” on this tomorrow or so and see how it goes. 🤞🤞👍

Re: General site updates

A quick update here.... There's a new main category called Non Park Related Topics. The existing forum of Non Park Related Topics (and it's posts) was moved into the new category so it's not actually in a park category since it's not park related. I also added a forum called Trail Foods and put that...

Rum Soaked Dried Pineapple Slices trail snack

I saw a recipe for Rum Soaked Pineapple Slices as a trail snack the other day, and thought that sounded tasty. I'm hoping to experiment with it a bit tomorrow and we'll see what happens. Fingers crossed. Thinking about adding in some maple syrup for the heck of it, because why not.. IM...

Re: Shuttles from Chief Mountain Customs to East Glacier

Do they just support trips on the east side of the park? I think they are just on the east side, yea.... I think that's correct.... Yea... I'd second Teapot on that.... You get a ride, and you get to learn some stuff while you're at it... I enjoyed hearing about the buffalo reintroduction program. ...

Re: Shuttles from Chief Mountain Customs to East Glacier

You bet. 👍. We’ve used them a handful of times and have had good luck with them overall. I think one time they were a little late due to roadwork delays if I recall but that’s a bit unavoidable and even that time wasn’t bad. But yea. I suppose as with any service, one’s mileage may vary. 👍 Cheers! K...

Re: Shuttles from Chief Mountain Customs to East Glacier

Hey Paul.... I'm uncertain on those specific shuttles, but I can say we have taken Backpackers Ferry from Swiftcurrent Lodge to the Belly River Trailhead right next to the Chief Mountain Customs. Just a short walk from there. We've also been picked up in East Glacier by Backpackers Ferry as well. I ...

Re: Hiking Partners for Glacier NP Mid Aug'24

I'm looking for a(some) hiking partner(s) for one or more day hike(s) in GNP mid to late August 2024. I'm arriving in West Glacier August 16 and will be Hi Eldpa.... Welcome to Glacier Park Chat! There will be a group of us from here near your time, but I'm afraid we'll be a week late and mostly ne...
