Re: Shuttles from Chief Mountain Customs to East Glacier

I’ve also used Wyett from Backpackers Ferry, and he was great. He loves sharing his knowledge of Blackfeet culture and so you learn a lot along the way. Just book a little extra time into your schedule. He was also a little late in picking us up, but it wasn’t his fault. There was a road closure on ...

Re: 2024 Lottery Results

Am I the first one here to secure a permit? My permit time was 3:00 pm today, and I picked up BOW HOL BOU BOW in mid August. I’ve never been to BOW but have stayed at HOL and been through Boulder Pass as part of our Northern Traverse in 2018. Looking forward to passing through the HOL BOU area twice...

Re: rec.gov - New Beta Campground Notification Feature

I noticed this feature last week and set up a request. I received a notification a few days later, and was actually in the process of checking emails when it arrived, so I opened it pretty instantaneously. I quickly went into recreation.gov and the site was already gone. The notification will inform...

Re: 2024 Lottery Results

I think they just assign a group of people a day and it starts at 7am MDT.

From what I’m reading, the awarded times seem to be every 2 hours throughout the day, every day of the week. Starting at 7:00 am and until at least 3:00 pm.

Re: 2024 Lottery Results

Did the Trip Dates forum category posts used to get erased each year when it's category name got reset to whatever the current year was?

I recall it working this way. And I believe the forum was only viewable if you were logged in as a user.

Re: Waterton to Swiftcurrent to Dragon's Tail - Sept '23

That was one of my favorite Glacier trips! We really had a fun time together and got along great as a group. Summer 2023 did not go as planned for me, so wrapping up the Glacier season with this trip was a high note. I have slacked with writing a trip report for 2023, but I’ll try to get out a conde...

Re: GNP 2023 - TSE to TNE (the long way)

I really enjoyed your report. I’m curious about trail conditions. I always think of this as an area that sees very little trail maintenance. Was this an issue? Sounds like the scenery has opened up a lot after the fire a few years ago. Quite the hike you completed solo with an injured toe! Thanks fo...

Re: 2024 Backcountry Permits: BIG Changes!

My biggest worry about this is that I'm not very lucky at lotteries :cant_watch:
Hopefully karma makes this your year!

Re: 2024 Backcountry Permits: BIG Changes!

That's how I'm thinking it will work. It's not clear though if the time frame awarded to complete my itinerary will be a full day, part of a day or a range of hours. I guess we'll find out on March 17. If it’s similar to the way they do it with the Grand Canyon permit lottery, starting at your awar...

Re: Heat, Smoke and Finally Relief

If I climbed up to Apgar Lookout and couldn’t see the lake, I’d be disappointed! I had no idea.

I’ve never eaten at Packer’s Roost. how’s the food?

Re: Good year for Feb, March Phantom Ranch reservations

Darn- we’re a month off. A few of us Chatters are hiking down South Kaibob and spending 2 nights at Bright Angel campground, and then hiking out on the Bright Angel Trail (after it reopens), spending one night at Havasupai Gardens to break up the climb out. We’re hoping to pick up Phantom Ranch canc...

That made me laugh, Orin! :D

We had some extreme temps over the weekend with wind chills down to minus 50. Dangerously cold.

Re: Sperry Chalet, Granite Park, 2024

A last minute conversation the night before Chalet Day resulted in 4 of us trying to apply yesterday morning. After a couple of time outs I ended up 547th in line, and we lucked out with a 3 night stay at Sperry for 5 people. Three nights!! Will be so nice to have an unrushed stay and some flexibili...
