Re: Heavens Peak

Kari, Jay W, thank you for the kind words. These are my only pictures of Lightning in Glacier Park worth sharing. 300 shutter clicks that night from the loop, from 11:40pm to about 1am I sat in the car peering at Heavens Peak. About 5-6 frames turned out showing lightning. Most didn't have enough li...

Smells like Glazed Donuts

I can't help but think I'm gonna hear about someone using this in Glacier Park next summer. Gives a new definition to the term 'bear spray'.

Re: Lodging by the month?

Does anyone know if GPI has a maximum length-of-stay rule for the lodges and motor inns? I know there's a limit on the campgrounds, but can you rent a cabin at Swiftcurrent starting the day the place opens and continuing until it closes? I'd love to do that. Not that I could, but I'd still love it....

Re: part of Josephine lake

It's been locally known as "The Bears' Bathtub" for decades, and it seems like at least once a summer a bear is, in fact, observed cooling down in it.
Thank you Natahki!!

part of Josephine lake

Along the Grinnell Glacier trail not far from the Northern tip of Josephine lake there is a tiny pond that is barely separated from Josephine Lake. Does anyone know if this pool of water has a name? Thanks. http://i1173.photobucket.com/albums/r589/gnp_photo/ce_zpsc370cc09.jpg http://i1173.photobucke...

Many Glacier WinterPictures

I was lucky enough to spend some time at Many Glacier a couple weeks ago. Snowy, windy, cold, but peaceful. For those curious, here are some pictures of the area this time of year. I added links to the panoramas in case they get cut off in your web browser. http://i1173.photobucket.com/albums/r589/g...

Jen, you appear to be on the shore of Lake McDonald, facing down toward Apgar?

Re: Slow season of fun

Gotta be Scalplock, then, based on the railroad and highway alignments. (Off topic, but what do you do at Lake McDonald? I worked there for several years back in the 70s and 80s.) yes, that is from the Scalplock trail, not too far from the lookout tower. I sent you a PM. Is #6 Cracker Lake? yes, Je...

Re: Slow season of fun

That's a great set of images, gnp_photo! I think I can recognize about three-fourths of them ... and I'm glad that someone likes fire lookout hikes as much as I do. :) Thanks for the kind words pitamakan. Yes I very much enjoy hiking in the park, and the lookout towers make for great destinations. ...

Re: Slow season of fun

I thought I would share a few photos from around the park. Most should be pretty easy. I broke the post up into 2 posts of 9. 1 http://i1173.photobucket.com/albums/r589/gnp_photo/12%2008%2012/01IMG_3652xweb_gpc.jpg 2 http://i1173.photobucket.com/albums/r589/gnp_photo/12%2008%2012/02IMG_4519xweb_gpc....

http://s10.postimage.org/qvd0x73uh/IMG_9101scweb.jpg That's cool. Where was it? Jay 8:00am From the hidden lake trail, we saw something galloping in the hanging gardens area. We heard the Marmots whistling, and thought yeah right, that's a wolverine. Then a few hours later from the cliffs behind hi...
