Re: Just returned from my June 2015 trip - quick report

Would think it ill-advised to make reservations at Granite PArk Chalet in case Swifcurrent Pass, Highline and/or GTTS to Logan are closed?

Re: June 27 - Aug 10 trip report

I've been to GNP 3 previous times, but this will be my first as early as June 26. From your photos, it appears that many of the great hikes in Many GLacier will be open. Do you think it is too early to count on GTTS road opening to Logan so I can do Hockey Ref again ( I love the Granite Park Chalet)...

Thinking about going to GNP for 4th time. In June. Did you find any problems with the trails in Many Glacier? We plan on staying at MGH and Granite Park Chalet.

Too Adventurous?

Hi, all. I am excited to start planning my fourth trip to Glacier this summer. I just got a week vacation at the end of July. Woo Hooo! So I am thinking of taking my 2 oldest kids ages 8 and 10 who have done only a couple of short day hikes; no more than 3 miles. But my mind starts spinning when I t...

Thank you for regaling us with your wit and wisdom. Your tales of your tireless days on the Glacier trails, accompanied by some terrific photographs, were inspiring. Like the contemporary readers of Dickenson and Dosteyevsky, who originally digested their stories chapter by chapter in lliterary peri...

Re: Questions about preparing for hiking with kids

I am a parent of four, ages 2, 4, 7 and 9. I live in Evanston and am hoping to instill a love for nature and hiking in my kids as well. That having been said, I am leery of biting off more than my kids can chew when it comes to a long day trip. My wife and I have gone "solo" to Glacier 3 t...

Re: routes from St. Mary to Banff

Copied below is an email from a Waterton rep, who responded to a similar question last year: Greetings from Waterton again! Waterton Park is 2 1/2 hours from the Southern edge of Calgary. Highway # 2 is the fast way from Calgary to Waterton (or Glacier) , but it is not the most scenic route. The sce...

Re: Perseid Meteor Shower

I was hoping for a great show here in Evanston because of a cloudless day and night. But to my disappointment, the ambient light or the very bright moon made it difficult to see any meteors when I checked it out in my backyard at midnight, 1:30 and again at 3:30 am. MAybe you have to be somewhere re...
